Belkin's WeMo Remote Control

Very interesting device for the gadget minded ...
Whilst it mentions that it uses an iPhone App it does not say there is an equivalent Android App. I am sure one will be "in the works" if not already available.

Belkin's WeMo lets you wirelessly control any plugged-in product at home:
wemo7Belkin has introduced a new home automation product called WeMo which allows you to turn home appliances and electronics on or off wirelessly from anywhere. WeMo is a large wall plug adaptor with a built-in wi-fi connection that allows users to turn the device plugged into it on or off. For example, a person can plug in their lamp to the WeMo Home Automation Switch and then switch it on or off using the accompanying free WeMo iPhone app.

Windows 8 RT Branding

And so the Windows 8 confusion continues ...
I have been saying this for months - although unaware of the Twitter confusion with ReTweet (RT)! The whole Windows 8 marketing must be coming from the same group that came up with Outlook Express on Windows XP, Windows Mail on Windows Vista and Live Mail on Windows 7. Just to add to the confusion with Outlook in MS Office and the recent decision to rename Microsoft Hotmail (originally MSN Hotmail or later Windows Live Hotmail) to Outlook.com! Confused yet??

Windows RT branding will be too confusing, Dell exec predicted: Windows RT branding will be too confusing, Dell exec predicted
Between Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT, it seems Microsoft has released too many disparate versions of Windows for consumers to keep track of - just as an executive at Dell reportedly predicted would occur. Dell vice chairman and president of Global Operations and End User Computing Solutions Jeff Clarke told The Australian Financial Review that he at one point urged Microsoft to change the name of the Windows RT operating system used on ARM-based tablets like Microsoft's SurfaceA Windows device should be compatible with all Windows applications, Clarke argued, but Windows RT tablets are not. Thus, the mobile OS should not carry the "Windows" moniker. But Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer reportedly told Clarke that the Windows brand was just too important to drop.

Windows RT Confusion on Twitter

There's little doubt that Clarke's prediction has come true - Microsoft has even reportedly had to relax its own return policies due to customers' confusion over the various versions of Windows. Twitter users have been sounding off as well: "I keep wondering what Windows is retweeting," wrote CIO Online editor Brian Eastwood on Monday, referring to the tendency to abbreviate retweet as "RT" on Twitter. Another user, Corey Ginnivan, echoed that sentiment last Wednesday, tweeting, "I can never tell if your [sic] telling me to Retweet or if you're talking about the Surface." There isn't even a simple way to determine which Windows apps will work on Windows RT devices when you're browsing the Windows app store from a non-RT device.
When queried repeatedly by one Twitter user last Thursday, Microsoft's official @Surface account replied that the only way to see which apps are Windows RT-compatible is to check each individual app's "details" tab to make sure that ARM is listed as a supported processor.

A future for Windows RT

Microsoft even launched a dedicated site to explain the difference between the Surface with Windows RT and the Windows 8 Surface model, but that seems to have done little to alleviate Windows users' confusion. Nevertheless, Dell Vice President of Consumer Marketing Neil Hand insisted to The Australian Financial Review that "there's a future for RT." "Making sure we educate the market place on the differences was going to be a necessary action no matter what," he said. "Just calling it something different is not going to solve the problem."

Windows 8 Shutdown Menu

A very good step by step guide ...
But should all these Windows 8 add-on menus be necessary? Why couldn't Microsoft make all these options configurable for those who did not want change for change's sake!

Add a Shutdown menu to the Windows 8 desktop: Greg Shultz has found a technique that will allow you to recreate a reasonable facsimile of the Shutdown pop-up menu on Windows 8's desktop.

Windows XP's Retirement

I think this is a fair comment on the current situation.

Google in 2012

A good summary ...

In Depth: Highs and lows for Google in 2012:
It's been an interesting year for Google. Android stormed the smartphone charts but didn't do so well in tablets, so Google stepped in and made arguably the best non-Apple tablets around. Google's given huge sums to charity while avoiding huge amounts of UK tax, and when Apple booted its Maps off iOS it was Apple, not Google, that ended up getting hurt.

Windows 8 Training??

Might be worth a look when it is becomes available ...
For those who need some assistance with the new Windows 8 user interface.

Having trouble learning Windows 8? There’s an Aussie answer for that: dynamic-learning-windows-8-01
With a heavy emphasis on touch and rectangles, Windows 8 isn’t like your traditional mouse based operating system, and that makes learning it a little harder. Thankfully, there’s a homegrown solution coming designed to make everything easier to understand. Previewed recently for GadgetGuy, the educational program is developed by Dynamic Learning Online, a company that has been creating interactive training for quite some time, and has previously worked with the government to bring a series of interactive tutorials to Australians, educating seniors on how to use computers. For that project, over 20,000 senior citizens across Australia took part, with over 153,000 lessons taken over the course of two years.

Smartphones now over 50%

Staggering growth in Smartphones continues ...
A smartphone has to be the most comprehensive computing device available. An increasingly powerful computer combined with a phone and all packed into a very portable device!

More than half of Australians now using smartphones:
smartphoneindexMore than half (52 per cent) of Australian mobile users are now using smartphones according to the Telstra Smartphone Index – up from 41 per cent in 2011 and 32 per cent in 2010. The research, conducted by the Neilsen Company on behalf of Telstra, shows one big growth area is mobile shopping. Half of smartphone users have used their device to research a purchase and three in four of these have gone ahead and bought the product offline.

Surface in Australia Shops

So it is finally available in the shops ...
A 32 GB version starts at $559.

Microsoft's Surface tablet goes on sale at JB Hi-FI and Harvey Norman:

Mobile Phone Bill Shock

Mobile Cap Plans - users beware ...
I can easily check my progressive Data Usage on my Telstra Mobile Cap Plan but there appears to be no way a user can check progressive Call Usage within the Plan. I have challenged two Telstra Shops to show me how this can be done without success. This ability should be a legislated requirement on all Mobile Carriers.

Australians are still being stung by mobile phone bill shock:
billshockthumbDespite the popularity of mobile cap plans, Australians are still being stung by bill shock according to a new study by Macquarie University. The research, which was supported by budget mobile service provider Amaysim, shows that Australians are paying on average of $28 extra per month and cumulatively a staggering $557 million annually. The main culprits for excess bill charges on capped plans are making more standard calls than the cap allows followed buy excess data charges and international calls.

Slow Windows 8 Uptake

Comprehensive analysis - Windows XP just under 40% ...
A not surprising result for Windows 8 that is really following too close on the heels of Windows 7 which, at 44%, has only just passed Windows XP!

Windows 8 uptake: More like Vista than Windows 7: After a month on the market, Windows 8's usage uptake resembles 2007's Vista -- ultimately a poor performer for Microsoft -- rather than the eventually successful Windows 7, Net Applications said Saturday.

Surface Pro Pricing

Very expensive compared to a laptop ...
The Surface Pro has an Intel i5 CPU, 64 or 128 GB storage, no DVD-ROM, no keyboard (extra $120) and still costs a minimum of $900. You can buy a Lenovo E530 laptop with Intel i7 CPU, 6GB RAM, 750 GB storage, DVD-ROM, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, 3 USB (2 USB 3.0) and even a keyboard for $700! Guess you are paying for the portability of an ultra light laptop!

MS Surface Wi-Fi problems

Windows RT falls short

Another warning about Windows RT ...
I know this is a bit of a "hobby horse" of mine but I cannot resist posting yet another warning about the Windows RT Surface that is currently on sale. The full Windows 8 version of the Surface will not be available for another 3 months but I am not at all sure that the buying public understand the difference. With Christmas coming up I think there may be many caught out!

Exclusive: Intel: Windows RT falls short of full Windows 8 experience: Exclusive: Intel: Windows RT falls short of full Windows 8 experience
Intel believes that Windows RT falls short of the full Windows 8 experience, with a senior executive telling TechRadar that compatibility with old software and peripherals will remain a key issue for the ARM-based version of Microsoft's new operating system. For the first time, Microsoft has made its Windows OS available on a platform not based on Intel's longstanding x86. And to rub salt in the wounds, Microsoft has opted to make its own tablet that uses ARM architecture and Windows RT, with the Surface a key new player in the market.
However, speaking to TechRadar, Karen Regis – Intel's director for Ultrabook marketing strategy – explained why the chip giant was comfortable that more people would opt for Windows 8 than Windows RT. "With Windows 8 you're going to be able to take your whole library of software that you have invested in over the years and port it over to your new system," said Regis. "You're going to have full functionality and compatibility with your peripherals. "Microsoft made a claim about 420 million devices worked with RT but I think a lot of those are going to have class drivers only, so your printer might work but will you be able to select the number of copies or two sided printing or print quality? "With [Windows 8 on x86 machines] you know you are going to be able to."

No ARM in trying

TechRadar asked Regis how she felt about ARM's growing influence, and whether the competition was welcome. "I don't know if I would say it's welcome competition," she responded, "but we feel pretty good about the fact that you are going to get full PC compatibility and functionality out of our devices. "There are going to be a lot of Atom devices as well which will offer the same kind of compatibility with applications and you will not have to give up on your library of iTunes content that can come with you. "There's a lot of goodness that you are going to get on the i8 based systems that we think make it a much better experience for Windows 8 than the competition."

Windows 8/RT Touch

So we all in for some re-training ...
Interesting recommendation in this article about NOT using the Surface keyboard and trackpad until you have mastered the new Windows 8/RT interface.

Windows 8/RT touch interface confuses, frustrates early users: Some early users of Microsoft's Surface RT tablet say they are confused or frustrated by the touch interface on the 10.6-in. display and are relying instead on the attachable keyboard with its more conventional track pad and arrow keys to input commands.

Windows 8 vs Apple & Google

Yet another perspective on Windows 8 ...
I think the main drift of this article only holds true if you are comparing the Android and iPad tablets with tablets running the full Windows 8 software not Windows RT. Tablets running the full Windows 8 software may cost around $1,000 when they are available so a decent laptop at around $700 may prove to be a better buy, even if a bit heavier!

Opinion: Five reasons why Windows 8 has Apple and Google beaten: Opinion: Five reasons why Windows 8 has Apple and Google beaten
Microsoft is onto something. With Windows 8 it's better positioned than both Apple and Google to ride the coming laptop-tablet convergence wave. It might even eventually give Microsoft a shot at the all-important smartphone market. To understand why, let's count the ways in which Windows 8 is best.

1. Tablet-laptop convergence

Laptops and tablets are converging. And only Microsoft has an OS that's fit for that coming unification of devices. Apple has no convergence strategy at this time. That's because it fiercely guards product-specific profit streams and just doesn't go in for making things that cannibalise its own sales. So, Mac Mini is hobbled to protect iMac. iMac is hobbled to protect Mac Pro. And iPad isn't allowed to wander into MacBook's territory.
Microsoft Surface
Likewise, Chrome OS isn't a fully viable notebook OS. And nor is Android. Windows 8 is the only OS that's a genuine goer for both tablets and laptops.

2. Superior user interface

The interface formerly known as Metro and now labelled 'Modern' is quite literally the most modern of touchscreen UIs. It's not perfect. But it's fresh. It's contemporary. And it's polished.
It combines the responsiveness of Apple's iOS with the power and configurability of Google Android. And it looks better than both.
Windows 8

3. ARM and x86 CPU support

You can argue the toss over the advantages of ARM vs x86 processors. Will ARM continue to have a power efficiency edge? Will the raw power of Intel's x86 chip eventually win the day?
It doesn't matter because with Windows 8, Microsoft now supports both. OK, there's an x86 compatible version on Android out there, too. But for now it's more of an experiment than a serious play in the market. Meanwhile, when it comes to ultramobile operating systems, Apple's iOS is ARM-only..

4. Multi-tasking

Multi-tasking is something that Windows has always nailed, from thread management at the kernel level to the way the UI presents presents multiple apps. Now it's even better than ever thanks to a choice between old-school task bar application management on the desktop and app "snapping" in the Modern UI.
Windows 8
Microsoft has also added some gesture-driven app switching to the Modern UI. Put simply, Windows 8 is miles ahead of iOS and Android for multi-tasking and app switching.

5. Backwards compatibility

OK, this bit only applies to the regular x86 version of Windows 8 and not the ARM-compatible Windows RT, flavour. But only Windows 8 offers you a fully contemporary, touch-enabled ultramobile OS that also supports the huge ecosystem of legacy PC applications and delivers powerful multi-tasking. It really is one OS to rule them all.
Windows 8

It's not all good news

Windows 8 isn't perfect. Limitations abound, including the peculiarly neutered desktop mode in Windows RT. Then there's the pitiful number of touch-enabled apps compared with Android and iOS. But there's plenty of time to get forensic with Windows 8's shortcomings. For now, let's focus on the fact that it's a huge step forward for MS. For you, it means the prospect of genuine device consolidation. Tablet and laptop combined in one device that's more than the sum of its parts. If merit counts for anything, here's hoping Windows 8 will make a tangible dent in both Android and iOS.

Windows RT Headache

Windows RT - "the elephant in the room for Windows 8" ...
I think this a great article! I have been hammering the difference between Windows RT and full Windows 8 at every opportunity but I totally agree with Dan Grabham that there are going to be a lot of disappointed Windows RT purchasers when they find out that Windows RT will not run legacy Windows software. The link at the bottom of this post under "Related stories" is also well worth a read.

Opinion: Windows 8 launch disappoints, Windows RT still a headache: Opinion: Windows 8 launch disappoints, Windows RT still a headache
The shame of the Windows 8 launch was that there was a lot of pizzazz and not an awful lot of news. No big-name app announcements, nothing new demonstrated and no previously unheralded hardware for the assembled journalists to paw over. I hate to say it, but in terms of the launch, it was more Vista than 7. More style than substance. The lack of app announcements is nothing short of baffling. Where's Facebook, for example – a company, lest us not forget, that Microsoft owns a stake in. And what about Twitter? Or Spotify? Or countless others? A corporation of this influence should have been able to rope some decent accomplices in. We did have the Microsoft-owned Skype and New York Times, but these were announced before the Windows 8 launch event and were thought to be the prelude to something bigger. Microsoft should have done more here, primarily because it's doing the Windows Store (and Microsoft's self-styled 'reimagining' of Windows) a disservice. We've seen some decent if not stunning apps so far from the likes of eBay, Wikipedia, the Telegraph, Sky News, Netflix and more, but this story needs to continue to get people enthused about Windows 8 – and decent apps will be far more powerful than a launch event in Times Square.

Windows RT still a headache

True, we did also have Microsoft Surface. But Windows RT remains a total mess – when I wrote a year ago that the lack of legacy app support on RT was the "elephant in the room for Windows 8" I thought Microsoft would have at least thought out a strategy by now for telling people about the lack of desktop app support. Instead, it seems to be pinning its hopes on point-of-sale material and people seeking out more information about the device. The fact there is no Windows 8 Pro-toting Surface as yet only confuses matters. As I wrote in September 2011 "We're all used to buying a Windows PC and sticking all and sundry on it. If people can't do this with an ARM-based Windows tablet but you can with an Intel-based Windows tablet, confusion will reign. So how will Microsoft tell people and help them to work out what's what?" The simple fact is that it hasn't. Quite incredible for something which represents such a gamble for the corporation. Surface's price is decent at £399/$US499/AUD$559 for the 32GB model. That compares favourably with the iPad. But people will still think they're getting full Windows 8 for that. Despite the RT branding, Windows RT and Windows 8 look the same on screen. And Microsoft's insistence that it will tell people about Windows RT's lack of desktop capabilities at every point of purchase falls apart on its own Surface page about Windows RT. See anything here that makes things clear? Windows is now a two-tier operating system – and there will be some very unhappy customers out there who buy Windows RT devices over the coming months. No wonder Apple is laughing.

Windows XP Turns 11

Many will mourn the passing of Windows XP ...
I for one will miss Windows XP! Working on a daily basis with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, I still think that Windows XP is the most intuitive User Interface (UI) and the easiest OS to get running smoothly and efficiently on 756MB of RAM. Vista and 7 both do some much work in the background that is not easy to control or optimise.

Windows XP turns 11, still not dead yet: On the same day Microsoft loudly proclaims Windows 8 in New York, the aging-but-still-going Windows XP today quietly celebrated its 11th birthday.

Microsoft: Apple's walled garden isn't its main app issue: Microsoft: Apple's walled garden isn't its main app issue
Microsoft's coroporate VP for Windows web services has told TechRadar that he believes that is not Apple's walled garden that upsets consumers, but the Cupertino-based giant's decision to not allow apps that compete with its own products on its store. Speaking at a round-table, Antoine LeBlond was asked by TechRadar is the decision of Microsoft to have its own store would bring criticisms of creating its own walled garden. But LeBlonde insisted that it was important to dig a little deeper into what people expect from their app stores.

Walled gardens

"The funny thing is that I think you have to dig a little bit into the walled garden argument because there are a lot of different parts to it," he said. "There really, truly is a pure philosophical point of view that says 'I should be able to create and distribute an app that has all kinds of horrible things in it no matter how horrible they are' and I don't really know what to say about that." "I think what frustrates people with Apple's model in particular is that they have carved out some specific things for their own ownership, so the fact that you can't build an app that sells music, you can't distribute a competing browser [although this is actually possible], you can't distribute a mail app - those are the things that become frustrating to people. "There's that and then there's the economic side of it that says you can't distribute an app where you acquire subscriptions without sharing 30 per cent of fees with Apple. "It's a pretty drastic constraint on developers."

Microsoft Store

LeBlond believes that Microsoft has avoided these pitfalls with its own offering, as Windows 8 makes its long-awaited public debut. "We've taken a very different approach to this," he added. "We're happy with having stores in our store, we're happy having mail apps, browser apps. "If you read our terms and policies we're not carving places out for ourselves."

Apple Lightning Connector

Apple Lightning connector explained

Apple's Thunderbolt connectors have a smaller sibling: Lightning, which replaces the familiar Dock connector on the iPhone 5, the iPad 4, iPod touch, iPod nano and iPad miniIt's significantly smaller than the outgoing Dock, but it's received a bit of a mixed reaction from people who've splashed out on Dock-connecting accessories and cables and don't fancy paying for expensive adaptors. Is it a genuine step forward?

Skype 6 arrives?

May not yet be available worldwide ...
My Skype installation still says that version 5.10 is the latest software and I thought that Skype 6 was still Beta Release. I won't be rushing to upgrade to Skype 6 which is really the first Microsoft version of this popular software.

Skype 6 arrives for Windows and Mac: Skype 6 arrives for Windows and Mac
A new version of Skype was released Wednesday for both Windows and Mac OSX.
The desktop client for the telecommunication software includes a few new upgrades for both operating systems, as well as individual adjustments for Microsoft and Apple desktops.
Windows gets the bulk of the updates, even though a separate Skype client is planned for Windows 8, but Mac users will find some welcome improvements nonetheless.

Skype gets social

The key new feature both versions of Skype will see is the ability to sign up using either a Facebook or Microsoft account. No longer will users have to create a separate Skype account just to use the service, which should make it even easier to start using the service and start connecting. Skype will also integrate with Windows Live Messenger, Outlook and Hotmail to provide a one-stop location where users can instant message with any contacts. There's also promise of the ability to make audio and video calls directly through Windows Live Messenger. However, that feature is still a few weeks away.

More languages, Retina support

The Windows client will also play host to improvements such as a new user interface and improved telemetry. Six more languages - Thai, Croatian, Slovenian, Serbian, Catalan and Slovak - are now included in the Windows version as well, bringing the total tongue count to 38. On the Mac, Skype will finally support the Retina display, which is a huge addition considering Apple just announced a Retina version of its most popular laptop, the 13-inch MacBook ProUsers will also be able to have multiple chat windows open at one time on the Mac, which is a welcome addition according to Skype's feedback. It should be noted there is already an issue with Mountain Lion's compatibility where the image picker doesn't work properly, but that shouldn't stop any user from making calls or engaging in chats.

iPad Mini / Nexus 7 / Kindle Fire

Here's a tech spec comparison for those interested ...
If you are not into data sheet comparisons just ignore this post!

iPad Mini vs. Google Nexus 7 vs. Kindle Fire: Wondering how Apple's iPad Mini stacks up against popular 7-inch tablets from Google and Amazon? Here's a tech spec comparison.

Apple iPad mini

More detail on the Apple iPad Mini just released ...
After all the rumours, here it is!

In Depth: iPad mini: 10 things you need to know: In Depth: iPad mini: 10 things you need to know
It's been rumoured for a long time, but it's finally here: the iPad mini exists and it's coming to an Apple Store near you. Smaller than a standard iPad but noticeably bigger than a seven-inch Android tablet, it's the most affordable iPad yet - but will it appeal to you? Here's what you need to know.

1. The iPad mini release date is Nov. 2

We expected the iPad mini to ship in plenty of time for Christmas, and Apple didn't disappoint: the Wi-Fi model will start shipping for delivery on the Nov.2, with the LTE version coming along a few weeks later in late November. Apple will start accepting iPad mini orders on the Oct. 26.

2. The iPad mini price is $329

Prices are slightly higher than anticipated, but it's still the cheapest iPad yet: the Wi-Fi version of the iPad mini starts at $329(GB£269, AU$369) for the 16GB model, rising to $429 (GB£349, AU$479) for the 32GB model and $659(GB£429,AU$589) for the 64GB. As you'd expect the mobile broadband version is more expensive: it's $459(GB£369,AU$509) for 16GB, $559(£449,AU$619) for 32GB and $659(£529,AU$729) for 64GB.

3. The iPad mini screen size is 7.9 inches

Apple clearly believes that seven inches is a little too small for a tablet: the iPad mini has a 7.9-inch backlit IPS display running at a resolution of 1024x768. That gives it the same resolution as an iPad 2, so while it isn't a retina display the smaller screen means it should look much sharper than the iPad 2. The overall dimensions of the iPad mini are 200mm high, 134.7mm wide and 7.2mm deep, and the entire package weighs a titchy 308g.
By keeping the same screen resolution as the iPad 2, the iPad mini will be able to run iPad apps without any horrible rescaling or black bars - and as Phil Schiller showed far more often than was strictly necessary, it delivers significantly more screen real estate than a typical seven-inch device.

4. The iPad mini specifications are similar to the iPad 2

While the fourth generation iPad gets an A6X processor, the iPad mini sports something a bit older: an A5, the same dual-core processor you'll find in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. That isn't the very latest Apple processor, but as we know from our iPad 2 it's more than capable of handling even the most demanding apps - and it doesn't need an enormous battery to keep it running.

5. The iPad mini is black, but also white

Rumours of multi-coloured iPad minis proved incorrect: as with its big brother, the iPad mini comes in a choice of white or black, although while the normal iPad has a plain metal back the iPad mini has iPhone 5-style silver and black back covers. Perhaps we'll see multi-coloured cases in next year's inevitable second-gen model.

6. The iPad mini does 4G LTE

Like the iPhone 5, the iPad mini has different versions for different LTE bands: model A1455 will do LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 13 and 25, and model A1454 will work on LTE bands 4 and 7. That means for U.K. users, its model A1455: band 3 is the 1800MHz frequency used by Everything Everywhere's 4G LTE network.

7. You can use it as a camera without embarrassment

The iPad mini has a front-facing 1.2MP camera for FaceTime calls and a 5MP rear-facing camera for still shooting and 1080p HD video recording, and that smaller case won't look as silly when you try and shoot photos with it. There's no flash but the sensor has backside illumination and an f/2.4 aperture for low-light shooting.

8. The iPad mini wireless is dual-band

Both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+Cellular versions of the iPad mini benefit from dual-band Wi-Fi, with support for 802.11a/b/g wireless and 802.11n on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. All iPad minis also get Bluetooth 4.0 for low-power connections to accessories and peripherals.

9. The iPad mini battery is good for all-day use

One of the best things about the iPad is its all-day battery life, and the iPad mini touts 10 hours of battery life from its 16.3-watt-hour lithium polymer battery. On mobile data, Apple reckons you'll get nine hours of web browsing.

10. The iPad mini has a lightning connector

Not a big surprise, we know, but the iPad mini has the same tiny Lightning connector as the iPhone 5 so you'll need an adapter if your existing accessories expect a Dock connector.

iFlashdrive iPad and iPhone

Expensive USB drive but it gets around Apple's lack of a USB port ...
I wonder if Apple gets a cut from this hardware manufacturer?

iFlashdrive is like a USB drive for your iPad and iPhone:
iflashdriveOne of the main complaints with Apple’s iPad is that it doesn’t have a USB port to easily view files but a new product called the iFlashdrive solves that problem. The device allows users to save files like a regular USB drive and then view the files on the iPad, iPhone or iPod simply by plugging it in to the 30-pin dock connector. The first time the iFlashdrive is plugged into your iOS device it automatically launches a notification to download the free iFlashdrive app.
