This game changer should start rolling out in the US Fall. The number of current Chromebooks that are compatible with Android apps is limited but all new Chromebooks should be OK. This will make Chromebooks and even more compelling alternative to Windows.

Announced at this year's Google I/O Conference, the first four Android apps are now available to run on Chrome OS. Whilst this is just a start, it is envisaged that little or no work will be required in porting the apps, quote "There is no porting required. It seems that Google has built an entire Android stack into Chrome OS using Native Client. Both OSes are based on Linux...." This can effectively open up many of the 1.2 million apps in the Google Play Store to the Chrome OS running on Chromebooks.

Good way to re-utilise old PCs that will no longer run the latest Windows OSes. I have given it a try and it works very well on an ASUS Eee 1000HE netbook!
This not unexpected although, in Australia, it is getting harder and harder to purchase a Chromebook in a retail store. Of course they are available from most manufacturers online.

Other Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have been looking for an alternative Operating System to offset the decline in the PC sales over the last couple of years. Chrome OS offered that opportunity with most now offering a Chromebook product.
The Google top-of-the-line Pixel which runs Chrome OS now has a Pixel C cousin that is running Android! The rumours are increasing that Google is going to roll Chrome OS into Android but Google is denying it, saying that the two will run side by side!

Many people really don't need a full Windows (or Mac) laptop and I really wish they would seriously consider a Chromebook.
Adobe is serious about running its applications from the cloud. Now all Chromebooks will have a serious photo editor like Photoshop.
Windows XP end-of-life and the unpopularity of Windows 8 is a huge opportunity for Google's Chromebook and they seem to be taking advantage. Even Microsoft thinks that Chromebooks are "work-worthy"!
