I don't think Apple will want to miss out on what is becoming a very popular tablet size somewhere between a 5" smartphone and a full sized 10" tablet. Look how successful the Google Nexus 7" has been!
iPad Mini to be unveiled on October 23:
The much-rumoured iPad Mini – a 7.85-inch version of the popular full-sized 9.7-inch iPad – will be revealed in a special event on October 23, according to AllThingsD. Earlier it was thought Apple would be distributing media invitations on October 10 ahead of an October 17 event but that date passed without a murmur. AllThingsD cited “people familiar with Apple’s plans” as the source for the October 23 iPad Mini reveal which is likely to be held at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters.
